Healthy Fitness Breakfast - Get Toned, Fit & Strong With a Healthy Fitness Breakfast

A healthy breakfast is one of the keys to a great body, good health - and energy for the rest of the day. But what most people don't understand is that you do not have to eat breakfast first thing in the morning. Here's a simple and healthy breakfast recipe that you can pre-make, ahead of time - and enjoy in the mid to late morning as part of a 'meal shifting' fitness/weight loss plan.

While the muscle-heads reading this article will scream out in fear of not getting enough protein - I will calmly note that since I've cut my protein intake in half, a few years ago (it was way too high) - I have not lost a single ounce of muscle, but I do look better - and I feel much better.

\"breakfast Recipe\"

Healthy Fitness Breakfast - Get Toned, Fit & Strong With a Healthy Fitness Breakfast

Yeah some people may say "Oh, that too late to be eating breakfast!" - but if you are already hip to the 'meal shifting' tactic - then you know how this works. If not - here's a quick summary:

Instead of eating first thing in the morning - you wait until mid to late morning to get your first meal in. Naturally all of your meals get pushed/shifted back a few hours - giving you less opportunity to overeat and consume unnecessary calories.

Here's the recipe:

- 1/3 cup whole oats - cooked on low heat (stove) for 10 minutes in...
- 3/4 cup water

...When cooked - drop on top of...

- 1/2 small/medium banana
- 1 tablespoon dried berry mix (I used Newman's Own Organic)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon powder
- 1 heaping tablespoon of (organic) ground flax seed (this is vital to my daily nutrition)
- 1 strong pinch of stevia extract powder (for all natural, zero calorie sweetness)

Stir it up...

Add some water to tweak the consistency to your preference...

I eat this about five times per week.

If scheduling this type of breakfast for your self is a challenge - try this...

On Sunday, follow the same recipe as above. Just multiply it by 5. When it is done - divide it up into 5 storage containers - and put them into the refrigerator.

Now you have one for each day of the week.

No excuses!

A Typical Filipino Breakfast

Filipinos love to eat. An average Filipino eats around six times a day. We eat breakfast usually around 6-7 am, we have some snacks usually around 10am, lunch, more snacks at 3pm and finally dinner.

A typical Filipino breakfast is usually eggs, sunny side up; fried rice and any or all of the favorite Filipino breakfast staples: tocino or sweetened pork strips; tapa, a kind of beef jerky or tuyo, dried salted fish.

These dishes are fairly easy to cook. They require only minimal cooking skills. Fried rice is usually recycled rice from the night before. It is just rice that has cooled, then fried in a little oil with lots of garlic. Tocino and tapa, require a little boiling, when they are soft, the water is usually drained and a little cooking oil is added to fry the meat. Once it has started to caramelize, it is removed from the heat and served hot. Tuyo is usually washed to remove the excess salt and then fried in hot oil.

A Typical Filipino Breakfast

Filipinos are talkative in nature and even early in the morning the mood in the breakfast table is usually festive. Breakfast is usually a time for mom to remind her family to be good in school, to come home on time and for dad to take it easy at work. Although most Filipino mothers work, they still find time to cook these simple fares for breakfast with the family.

Breakfast is a good time for the children to touch base with their parents too. Since both parents usually work and come home late when the children are about to go to bed, kids usually remind their parents of upcoming projects for school or ball games and parent teacher conferences during breakfast.

Other favorite Filipino breakfast dishes are: hotdogs, pork and beans, sardines usually in tomato sauce and corned beef. Since children's classes start early in the Philippines, usually around 7-7:30 in the morning, breakfast food is usually easy to prepare. And rice is usually eaten with whatever viand there is.

Though it is not uncommon to find Filipinos eating cereals, oatmeal, toast or pancakes for breakfast, the tuyo, tapa and tocino will always be all time Filipino breakfast favorites. In some tables, a combination of a cooked and cold breakfast is even common. Mom may prefer oatmeal and fruit to her kids milk and cereal, and dad might opt for the cooked breakfast. It is also a frequent practice in most Filipino homes to eat pan de sal or bread while waiting for a cooked breakfast.

Filipinos definitely believe to eat like kings during breakfast because this gives us more time to chat with each other and enjoy each other's company. It is a time to relax before starting a long day.

Diabetic Breakfast Ideas: Deliciously Simple Breakfast Ideas for Diabetics

Breakfast is the mot important meal of the day. How many times have we heard that? Well it's true, and especially for diabetics. If you're tired of having the same thing every day, you can switch up your morning food routine with some great diabetic breakfast ideas.

A recent study done in the UK suggests that what we eat for breakfast has a bearing on how our bodies react to lunch. According to the study, eating soon after waking up in the morning may help stabilize blood glucose levels later during the day. The small-scale study investigated metabolic changes in eight obese adults with type 2 diabetes.

The subjects were divided into two groups--one group had breakfast soon after waking up in the morning and the other group skipped breakfast altogether. The researchers noted how blood glucose levels differed between the groups, and found that those who had breakfast showed a much lower spike in blood glucose after lunch, compared to those who didn't have breakfast. The two groups had similar levels of insulin.

Diabetic Breakfast Ideas: Deliciously Simple Breakfast Ideas for Diabetics

What this means for diabetics is, starting the day with a proper meal composed of healthy diabetic breakfast foods can help steady blood glucose levels. Clearly, eating healthy meals in moderate portions and at scheduled times is the best way to manage diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends having a similar amount of carbohydrates for breakfast every day. Consistent carbohydrate intake for each meal helps keep your blood sugar levels within range. The recommended amount is between 45 and 60g of carbohydrate for each meal.

With this in mind, let's take a look at some healthy breakfast foods for diabetics.

Foods that contain carbohydrates, such as starches, milk, fruits and yogurt can raise blood-sugar levels. If you can control your carbohydrate intake, you will be better able to manage your diabetes. A healthy breakfast, especially during the colder months, is hot cereal. You can prepare a healthy diabetes breakfast by adding fruit and a half-cup of milk to a cup of any hot cereal. A staple in diabetic breakfast ideas is a cup of cooked hot oatmeal, two tablespoons of raisins and a half-cup of skim milk.

Cold cereal is also a healthy diabetes breakfast option for diabetics. You should choose unsweetened cereals that have 2.5g of fiber per serving, at the very least. To prepare a healthy breakfast with 45 to 60g of carbohydrate, add three-quarters of a cup of whole-grain cold cereal to a cup of skim milk. Add one slice of whole-wheat toast with one tablespoon of margarine and you will have a great breakfast to start the day.

French toast

Another healthy option for diabetic breakfast ideas is French toast made with whole-wheat bread, egg whites and skim milk. To stay within your 45 to 60g carbohydrate limit, have two slices of French toast made from whole-wheat bread, with two tablespoons of light pancake syrup and a cup of skim milk.

If you're pressed for time or don't feel like eating anything soon after you wake up, having a smoothie may be a good option. A delicious smoothie, packed with essential nutrients, is one of the most fulfilling diabetic breakfast foods. To prepare a healthy breakfast smoothie, add two servings of your favorite fruits, such as a cup of whole strawberries and a small banana, to a cup of skim milk. Add a teaspoon of peanut butter or wheat germ, and blend with ice. You can also substitute the skim milk with nonfat yogurt.

Egg sandwich

Eggs are rich in proteins and can be incorporated into several diabetic breakfast ideas. Eggs help you feel sated, and can make you feel full until the next meal. You can prepare an egg sandwich to start the day off with a healthy breakfast.

To prepare a delicious egg sandwich for breakfast, cook one egg into an omelet and add a slice of fat-free cheese and a slice of Canadian bacon to a whole-wheat toasted English muffin. Top off with a medium-sized banana for a healthy breakfast that'll keep you full for hours. You can also choose to have a bagel instead of an English muffin. Be sure to have a 2oz bagel to control the carbs. Remember, if you have high cholesterol, you should never have more than two egg yolks in a week. You can instead opt for egg whites or egg substitutes.

There are tons of great diabetic breakfast ideas for all palates. If you like fresh fruits, you can add more of that in your meals by having breakfast shakes or smoothies. Or if you like whole-grains, substitute it for fruits or breakfast meats.

Wedding Breakfast - What Is The Wedding Breakfast?

Even though the name tends to imply a morning meal, a wedding breakfast is far from what the word 'breakfast' is generally used for. The breakfast is, nonetheless, the most important occasion that follows a wedding. As the name suggests, it is a form of "breaking of a fast". In this case, it follows the period of fasting for the bride and the groom before the wedding. The breakfast is the first meal that breaks this fast following the wedding ceremony.

The reason why the Wedding Breakfast should be given paramount importance is quite evident from this. It is the most important meal for the bride and the groom in the sense that it is their first meal together as a lawfully wedded couple. Considering the significance of this part of a wedding ceremony, it is also quite understandable that the breakfast follows certain protocols of etiquette and traditional conventions.

Another important aspect of the Wedding Breakfast is that it is a family occasion in its truest sense. It is one occasion, where every member of the family, who has had at least some role in the wedding, is present. Moreover, the families of the bride and the groom also dine together for the first time, after the marital alliance has been established between them. It is, therefore an important that the Wedding Breakfast be organized properly so that everybody enjoys the breakfast with the sense of being together, rather than making it uncomfortable for the bridal party.

Wedding Breakfast - What Is The Wedding Breakfast?

The occasion of the breakfast ideally follows a number of rules. The seats are ideally divided into the "top table" and the "receiving line". The top table, facing the guests sitting along the receiving line, primarily consists of the families of the bride and the groom. The groom is ideally made to sit on the right side of the bride. Their respective families sit adjacent to each of them, the general layout being that the father sits on the right side of the mother. The chief bridesmaid and the best man sit in the corners.

An important aspect of the breakfast is the announcement of the three traditional toasts. The response to these toasts is normally done by the groom on the behalf of the bride, and then by the best man on behalf of the accompanying bridesmaids. The Toastmaster ensures that etiquette is followed properly during the Wedding Breakfast.

The Wedding Breakfast, in short, is the opening meal for a happily married life.

Why Breakfast is Good for You

Ok... If you are reading this is because you do want to hear the "why breakfast is good for you" sermon.

Well, you may have read it in the paper, or maybe you've heard it on the radio on your way to work. It's almost a cliche! Almost everybody knows that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day".

If it's so good... how come many people skip breakfast?

Why Breakfast is Good for You

People do. There are lots of excuses for not having breakfast, including (but not limited to):

Lack of time

not being a morning person

trying to lose weight

Not finding anything good for breakfast, and

having forgotten to have it

A while ago I used to skip breakfast too.

Later on I would have "whatever", and then a very heavy lunch (depending on how hungry I would be by lunch time).

But when I started paying attention to what I ate (and how and how much), I realised the damage I was causing to my body by skipping the most important meal of the day.

What happens to our bodies when we skip breakfast?

Understanding this question will help you realise "why breakfast is good for you", and hopefully, you'll reconsider making breakfast a must in your everyday life.

For starters, if you skip breakfast you're making it harder for your body to lose weight, and your energy levels will tend to be lower than those of a person who looks after herself.

Think about it. By the time breakfast is due, your body has not received any food for about 8 hours (a third of your day). Compare this with your "day" hours, when you have 3 (if not more) meals.

It is amazing how, if you are used to skipping breakfast, you condition yourself to feel "ok", but a close examination of your "fasting" mood would reveal that your levels of energy are low. What happens is that your body is rested at the end of a good sleep, but you still need the energy after you wake up.

Your body does not stop just because you go to sleep. It goes on breathing, digesting, pumping up blood everywhere in your body, and moving (amongst many other physiological processes).

It constantly needs fuel (ie food), and even if you're not hungry early in the morning, your body will still need the extra energy contained in a breakfast meal. It makes sense, doesn't it?

But breakfast is more than an energy source. Breakfast is good for you because it:

provides glucose to your brain, making you mentally efficient and alert. You get "the edge" by having breakie (Australian for "breakfast"); ;-)
reduces your cholesterol levels (depending on what you eat for breakie, of course!);

gives you vital nutrients and vitamins;

makes you slimmer, by jump-starting your metabolism (how quickly your body burns energy), which is slow after relative inactivity at night.
makes you "Mr or Ms Happy". An energized and balanced meal may alter your mode and make you feel better during the day.

What to have for breakfast?

The opposite of skipping breakfast is having the wrong things for breakfast (and possibly too much of it too!).

Every meal is capable of giving you energy. The question is "how long will that energy last for?". This is important to know because that will determine whether you still feel "charged up" till lunch time, or whether you're starving by 10 AM.

Avoid things like chocolate chip muffins and other high sugar meals. The energy levels are high (and they taste deliciuos, I know!) but short-lived, and the residual makes you bigger and heavier. So, these foods are a no-no.

Fresh fruits and cereals, are a healthier choice, but you have to be mindful of the sugar contained in cereals. Some of them can have enough sugar a whole family in one single serving!

But what if you're not "a breakfast person?"

There is no such a thing as a "breakfast person".

If you need to do something for your health, you do it, and you can condition yourself to make having breakfast part of your life and take pleasure on it.

But I've got a couple of tips that can help you in your transition to having breakfast:

Know "why" breakfast is important. Reading this article was a good start; ;-)

Buy fruits and cereal (but mind the amount of sugar that some cereals contain);

Check out my (ahem... )delicious low fat breakfast recipes and try some (you'll like them, I promise);

plan your meals. Planning ahead to have interesting and tasty meals for breakfast will help you enjoy it;

If you don't have the time to prepare breakie (you don't have 5 minutes for yourself!?), you may choose a good low fat fast food outlet and be good and have a low-fat-low-sugar-meal.

But whatever you do... do have breakfast!

... it's good for you! ;-)

Have a great day!

Choosing & Cooking Chinese Christmas Recipes

With the Chinese New Year being the most important event in the Chinese calendar, you'd imagine that Christmas got swept under the carpet. Not so, as celebrating Christmas becomes more popular throughout China.

Whilst you won't find the hype and shopping madness of Western countries, in major cities you'll see lights, trees and Christmas decorations on the streets and in stores. Christmas Day is not even a bank holiday in China, although it is in Hong Kong and Macao. Whether this is just part of the Chinese interest in Western culture, or a sales ploy by the big stores, who can say?

With an increasing number of Christians, it can only be expected that more people will be celebrating the festive season in China each year. With little tradition and history, cooking for a Chinese Christmas dinner means you can cook any special occasion dish you choose.

Choosing & Cooking Chinese Christmas Recipes

However, there are a few suggestions we can make to get you started:-

  • Peking Duck
  • Cantonese Roast Duck
  • Kung Pao Chicken
  • Cookies
  • Five Spice Peanuts
  • Sesame Seed Balls
  • Spring Rolls

Whilst many of the recipes above are traditionally eaten for the Chinese New Year, they will serve just as well for a Christmas dinner. As always with Chinese cooking, use the freshest ingredients, prepare them well ahead of time, so that all you have to do is cook!

Best Fresh Salsa Recipe

Here is the best salsa recipe I have ever made.

My family does not even like regular jar or store bought salsa anymore. I use to make salsa and cook the ingredients on the stove but once was in a hurry and just used everything straight from the garden, after a little washing. The result was a flavor burst in my mouth with all the wonderful flavors that were not toned down by cooking them away.

Hope you enjoy and give me your comments.

Best Fresh Salsa Recipe

8 tomatoes

3 green peppers

4 jalapeno peppers (you can remove some or add some depending on your taste)

1 small onion

Garlic cloves or minced garlic

Olive Oil

Lemon or lime juice

Cut off the tops of the green peppers and remove seeds. Cut off the tops of the jalapenos but do not remove seeds. Cut the outer skin off the onion and cut in four sections.

Place these items in a food processor and run until everything is small. I usually do not leave big chunks of the jalapeno as small chopped bits blend better and give flavor throughout the salsa.

Drop in 1 teaspoon on minced garlic. You can use the stuff out of the jar from the store or put in 2 whole cloves.

Wash the tomatoes and cut off the tops and cut them in half our fourths and put them in the food processor on top of the already chopped up peppers and onions.

Process these until the tomatoes are well chopped. Open the food process and remove the container and put a strainer in your sink and pour the mixture from the processor into the strainer and let strain all the excess liquid from the tomatoes. I usually use my well washed hand in their to stir up the salsa and speed up the process but you can use a big spoon. When Most of the excess liquid is gone dump the strainer mixture into a bowl or container.

Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon dried parsley, 3 to 4 tablespoons lemon or lime juice. I prefer lime juice but once ran out and used lemon juice and it worked just as well. I use the bottled juice but it you have fresh it would be even better. Add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil.

Stir everything together with a spoon and quickly get out your chips and get some because as soon as your family knows you have homemade salsa made it will not be around for very long.

Importance of Breakfast - Why It Is the Most Important Meal of the Day

Most people agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yet food magazines and cookbooks feature mostly the latest and greatest dinner recipes.

Breakfast means to break the fast after 10 to 12 hours without eating. During the night the body is busy with breathing and other physiological processes. The body uses the stored glucose to provide the necessary energy for these processes.

Upon waking up, it is important to replenish the "batteries" of the body by supplying it with nutrients such as minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, and of course, water. A complete and balanced breakfast gives someone the opportunity to be satiated until lunch time and even lessens the urge to binge at dinnertime.

Importance of Breakfast - Why It Is the Most Important Meal of the Day

Breakfast replenishes the level of glucose that your body needs. Adults and students alike have better concentration and a heightened sense of well-being.

Breakfast hampers the urge to eat sugary food in mid-morning. As a result, someone eating breakfast is more likely to lose weight or at least maintain weight. When you eat breakfast, your metabolism rate increases and so does the level of blood sugar, Enzymes, acting as catalyst, break down fat, which releases energy.

A balanced breakfast provides energy for the entire day. In other words, a hearty dinner or lunch cannot effectively make up for the lack of nutrients due to skipping breakfast.

Muscles need glucose for increased energy levels and so does the brain; which explains why people eating breakfast have better concentration. This extra physical and mental energy leads to better performance of daily activities.

Eating breakfast stabilizes blood sugar level and reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Platelets, the clotting cells of blood, become stickier in the morning before breakfast. This stickiness increases the tendency for a blood clot to form during the morning hours, which may result in a heart attack. Eating breakfast makes the platelets less sticky and therefore, decreases the chance of a heart attack, which tends to occur mostly in the morning.

Eating breakfast is associated with improved strength and endurance along with a better attitude toward school or work. Most school districts have a breakfast program to ensure that children can cope with their academic activities. Children who go to school hungry cannot perform well. Consequently, Congress enacted the School Breakfast program as part of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966. Children who ate breakfast had improved test scores as well as reduced rate of tardiness and absenteeism.

People who eat breakfast regularly are more likely to rate their health as excellent or good. Eating a bigger meal in the morning and a smaller meal at night optimizes your daily energy level.

3 Simple and Healthy Breakfast Recipes

The most common reason for skipping breakfast or eating a high-fat breakfast is the lack of knowing how to eat healthier. For example, if I laid out an entire eating plan for you and all you had to do is follow it, life would be great. Sometimes it's not that simple, so here are 3 healthy breakfast ideas for you to get you started:

1. Granola and Fat Free Yogurt - My personal favorite! It's simple, tasty, and very healthy. Start off by getting Fat-Free plain yogurt and your choice of granola. Personally, I look for either high fiber, flaxseed added, or both. Once you have the ingredients, the recipe is simple. All you do is fill your bowl with yogurt and sprinkle a handful of granola on top. For additional great flavor, add fresh fruit!

\"breakfast Recipe\"

One simple bowl can give you up to 25% of your entire day's recommended protein. The best part- you won't feel hungry after eating this healthy breakfast choice and the fiber and protein will give you that added "pep in your step" to make it through your day.

3 Simple and Healthy Breakfast Recipes

2. Fruitty Butter Shake - An excellent source of protein and a great way to start your day- not to mention one of the tastiest shakes you will ever eat! Put all or some of these ingredients into the blender: 10-15 blueberries, 5 strawberries, 2 tablespoons peanut butter, 1 teaspoon flaxseed, 3 tablespoons plain fat free yogurt. These are my favorites, please add or subtract to suite your needs.

This shake does wonders for your energy level and gets you through the day, feeling like you are literally on cruise control!

3. Veggie Shooter! - Everything you can imagine a protein shake being, and more! All you need is an open mind for this one, and get ready to watch your energy levels take off. Again, get the blender out and mix these ingredients: Squeeze 1/2 lemon into the blender and 1 full cup of water, then add chopped celery, cucumber, fresh spinach, carrots, and parsley. Liquify and enjoy!

I like to drink this 1 or 2 times per week. This ensures I am getting the necessary amounts of potassium, magnesium, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C. Another benefit of this shake: you won't get that "full" feeling of a lead ball in your stomach, yet your body will be satisfied for the next few hours!

Scrumptious Chocolate Belgian Waffle Recipe

Chocolate Belgian Waffle Recipe

The waffle is a cake-like breakfast bread made out of batter. The batter is usually a combination of sugar, oil, flour, eggs and milk poured into an iron that has designs in it and no, we are not talking about the average flat iron that we use on clothes. The iron used in baking waffles generally has a honeycomb like design in it and can be bought in numerous shapes. Some are heart-shaped, cone-shaped or even shaped like a cloud. The common waffle iron has the distinctive crisscross pattern. The pattern is the result of the elevated divisions on the iron.

\"breakfast Recipes\"

There are a large number of categorizes of waffles. There are the light, crisp waffles; the waffles that are like apple pie that smells and tastes like the real apple pie; cinnamon waffles; the light and softy chocolate chip and butter milk waffles that are so fluffy and light; the cornmeal waffles that has a light and crunchy texture; the gingerbread waffles poured with a chocolate sauce; the crispy maple walnut waffle that has a full maple taste within but the outer part is super crispy and of course who can forget the famous Belgian waffle. Most if not all of this are best served topped with butter, syrup or even fruits like raspberries or strawberries. And due to the constant demand for Belgian waffles, below is a recipe of a chocolate Belgian waffle.

Scrumptious Chocolate Belgian Waffle Recipe

For the Topping:

  • 18 Ounces of dark chocolate, chopped up
  • 1 Cup of heavy cream
  • 12 Tablespoons of butter (unsalted) cut into cubes
  • 1/2 Cup of corn syrup (light)
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • 4 Teaspoons of vanilla

Throw in all the items except for vanilla. Then mix everything in. Place over boiling water on a low heat; whip until melted and soft. Take away from high temperature and boiling water; beat with vanilla in a whisking action. Place in a ceramic bowl them microwave at moderate power for a minute. Then fold the ingredients very well until very smooth. Then microwave for twenty minutes then stir well until the topping is silky soft. Chill for a moment. If you are not going to use it immediately, store it in the refrigerator. It is best served when warm.

For the waffles:

  • 4 squares or 4 ounces of dark chocolate, chopped up
  • 4 squares or 4 ounces of unsweetened chocolate, chopped up
  • 4/6 cups of heavy cream
  • 4 pieces of large eggs (Large, at room temperature)
  • 6/8 cups plus 4 tablespoons of milk
  • 4 cups of cake flour
  • 1 cup plus 4 tablespoons of sugar
  • 4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt

In a small heatproof dish, mix chopped chocolates with heavy cream. Put over boiling water on a low heat. Whip until almost thawed out. Remove from high temperature and boiling water. Beat until soft. Then cool by stirring the batter occasionally until room temperature.

In a medium sized bowl, beat the egg yolks and milk until well-mixed. Set aside. Sift the sugar, cake flour, salt and baking powder into a medium-sized bowl. When the chocolate mixture is at room temperature, add now the dry ingredients together with the egg yolk and milk mixture. Fold until blended, should a few lumps appear just ignore.

Preheat the waffle maker. While the waffle maker heats, you may start cleaning a small bowl with a clean beater, beat the egg whites on high speed to stiffen the peaks. Gently fold into the batter until there the white streaks disappears. Then follow the manufacturer's instructions for cooking waffles because waffle makers vary from the amount of batter you are going to put on the divisions.

How to Prepare the Mixture For Homemade Pancakes

Pancake mixture is usually made of very simple ingredients such as flour, eggs, butter and milk. To prepare delicious pancakes, use organic eggs when making pancake mixture. Organic eggs have deeper-yellow yolks, so a pancakes made with them will have a better color. The flour should be plain. Milk can be skimmed or full cream, it doesn't make a big difference. Instead of milk, you can use buttermilk. It tastes really delicious. And salt of course, even the tiniest pinch makes a difference. And you can put it even if you are making sweet pancakes.

Some people like to let the pancake mixture stand for 30 minutes because it can give a lighter consistency. To cook pancakes use vegetable or sunflower oil. Don't use olive oil as it can give a savoury taste to sweet pancakes. Don't put too much oil on the frying pan, because the pancake mixture can turn gooey. Always make sure that the pan is non-stick. And remember that the pan will retain heat, so the more pancakes you make, the quicker the oil will heat and the less time it will take.

\"breakfast Recipes\"

Pancake mixture ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 Tbs. unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

How to make pancakes:
  1. First, place all ingredients in blender and blend until no lumps remain. Let batter rest 30 minutes to 1 hour, or cover and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Then, coat large non-stick skillet with cooking spray or oil and warm over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, whisk pancake mixture several times until consistency of heavy cream. If necessary, thin with some water.
  3. Pour ¼ cup of the batter into hot skillet. Then lift the skillet, and swirl batter around to coat bottom.
  4. Cook for about 3 minutes or until you notice that edges begin to brown and air bubbles form under the pancake.
  5. Take spatula and slide the edge of it under and round side of pancake. Flip over and cook for about 2 minutes more. Put pancake on the plate and in the warm place. For example in oven.
  6. Repeat with remaining batter.
  7. Serve pancakes filled with fresh berries and chocolate-hazelnut spread.
You can store your pancakes. Stack pancakes alternating each with two layers of waxed paper and place entire stack in a good freezer bag. You can store them for up to 4 months. When you want to use frozen pancakes, thaw them at room temperature for about an hour. Before using them, make sure they come up to room temperature. Heat a skillet and brush it with a little butter then heat the pancake gently on both sides.

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

There is nothing like a great sugar cookie recipe. Don't buy the roll of Pillsbury Dough, you can make a superb cookie that will remind you of the days when Grandma made them.

Grandma used to sit by the fire and drink her tea and Grandpa used to sip his coffee made from his French Press, before it was trendy. I loved seeing them sit there enjoying the day. When we walked in the house there were smells coming from the kitchen you just couldn't imagine. The sweet smell of warm sugar cookies invaded your senses. You knew today was going to be a treat.

\"breakfast Recipes\"

It was a tradition that we enjoyed every year. The kitchen was filled with flour storms and the counters were sticky from Buttercream frosting. We had tin cookie cutters spread all over the table. I liked the boot best, my sister liked the angel.

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

Grandma had a special way with those cookies and she handed down the recipe to me. I was to teach my kids how to make these wonderful holiday sweets. It wouldn't be Christmas time without this recipe of Yummy cookies.
I am publishing it because I want you to enjoy the best sugar cookie recipe ever.

Grandma's Favorite Sugar Cookie

1 cup white sugar

1 cup powdered sugar

1 cup butter

2 eggs beaten

1 tsp cream of tarter

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

4 cups flour

½ cup corn oil

Cream the sugars and butter together. Mix the beaten eggs, vanilla and corn oil, in. Add the dry ingredients .Mix all the ingredients well and chill overnight.
Bake at 375 F for 8-10 minutes....DO NOT OVERCOOK.

We used to make the funniest colors to decorate the cookies, most of them looked inedible. They tasted heavenly, though. We figured if we made them look gross enough, the adults would leave them alone. We were wrong. Everyone knew they were Grandma's famous sugar cookies from her handed down recipe book. This page was splattered with all sorts of colors. I have that book now. I love making these cookies with my kids.

Grandma's Favorite Frosting (don't forget the food coloring)

2 cups of powdered sugar

½ cup butter melted

1 ½ T Milk

1 tsp vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and vanilla. Add a small amount of milk (1 to 2 tablespoons). Beat until fluffy. If frosting is too sweet add a little more milk.

Try it this season. Enjoy your family and brew some wonderful tea or coffee and relax. Take the time to make memories with your family or neighbors or friends.

Thanksgiving Dinner Menu Ideas for Small Families

It seems easier to find all the right Thanksgiving recipes when you are planning a big meal for a large group, but what do you do when you have a small family or you're planning a meal for just you and your husband this Thanksgiving?  Check this list of Thanksgiving dinner menu ideas for small families, and discover how you can have an intimate day that is fun and memorable too!

First, don't think of this as a day that you have to do something traditional.  Instead, think of this time as a way to do something "special".  When many moms are spending Thanksgiving morning basting some big turkey, you can spend time frying up some sweet smelling gingerbread pancakes topped with whipped cream topping and hot syrup and served with freshly cut pineapple which you have beautifully placed on an antique platter, dreamy new serving dish from the new department store in your neighborhood, or pretty little dinner plate you purchased from the dollar store the day before.  If gingerbread pancakes don't do the trick for your family, how about serving up some kind of Paula Deen, Julie Child, or Rachael Ray breakfast dish, or you can bake a Mexican breakfast casserole you assembled the night before and placed in the oven Thanksgiving morning.  Monkey bread, those glorious sugar and cinnamon covered biscuit balls baked in a Bundt cake pan, smothered with brown sugar and butter can also be a nice start to a Thanksgiving day dinner for a small family, and if you keep left-overs of these scrumptious delights in baggies, you'll be enjoying this special treat for breakfast for a few additional days too.  Any special recipe you have never made before or have only made on a few special occasions would be something you might want to consider for Thanksgiving morning.

\"breakfast Recipe\"

Additionally, you can find a completely different special activity or event to do Thanksgiving morning.  Since you don't have a large crowd to prepare for, take the opportunity to get your family up to run or walk a 5K race in your town (make sure you tell them about this beforehand though, and complete any registrations necessary for a formal walk or run unless your just watching), or take some breakfast sandwiches to a nearby city park, enjoying a simple family walk in the morning air before or after you picnic in the cold weather.  Another idea might include planning a prayer and thanksgiving walk around your yard, neighborhood, or at some special indoor or outdoor place close to you.  Cut some paper into pieces, and then, on each piece of paper, write something your family is, or should be, thankful for, or write a prayer request for a blessing you would like to ask God's assistance with in the following year (like asking for grace to deal with a little baby and little sleep, sharing a problem or concern, asking for a new little baby in your lives someday, or requesting the knowledge of peace among the turmoil in your daily lives).  Use this, or something like this activity, as a tool for a special Thanksgiving morning activity.  Whether you make Thanksgiving morning special by enjoying a new, creative breakfast recipe or creating a memorable family moment, start your Thanksgiving Day with something special that you can do as a small family or couple that is not burdened with the weight of traditional cooking for a crowd.

Thanksgiving Dinner Menu Ideas for Small Families

Another idea to remember when you have a small family and family holidays coming up is that you do not have to be "in the norm" to enjoy your Thanksgiving Day.   You don't have to serve the typical Thanksgiving dinner menu.  Consider what recipes might be fun to try from Grandma's old cookbooks you have in storage, or from a book or magazine you have looked at while sitting in the coffee shop in Borders, or from recipes you found online.  If you want a traditional Thanksgiving meal but don't need the big turkey, find a recipe for turkey breast or turkey cutlets.  Try baked or deep fried, breaded turkey cutlets which remind your little ones of chicken nuggets, and serve with honey mustard sauce and sweet potato fries.  There are even many great turkey breast recipes you can make in the slow cooker.  If you feel you can stretch your comfort zone, consider something completely different or something you have always wanted to do but have never done before.  New recipes, old fashioned recipes, southern recipes, New England recipes, French recipes, easy Thanksgiving recipes, and even funny looking recipes Thanksgiving recipes for kids are all acceptable for family holidays eating!  Another idea might be to plan a family work day to start or complete special lawn and garden projects around the home or to build something fun like a bench or pavilion, following that by barbecuing cranberry turkey burgers on the grill.  The idea here would be to simply do something different, something fun, or something special to enjoy your dinner with your family, no matter how big or how small.  While tradition is nice, don't let it dictate your loved ones or your time with them.  Find what makes sense to your family and what you all would enjoy for a special time together, and you'll find the perfect Thanksgiving dinner menu for you!

As an additional note, short Thanksgiving vacations or a family outing can be a great, small family alternative to traditional family holidays at home.  An overnight stay at a nearby bed and breakfast or nice hotel can be a nice way to have some Thanksgiving fun, and most larger hotels have nearby restaurants that will be open for Thanksgiving dinner.  You might consider checking in on Thanksgiving Day, having dinner at a local restaurant, topping the night off with a movie you've wanted to see but could never find the time to go, and then checking out the next day to do some serious nearby Christmas shopping or attend a community Christmas event.  Having a small family to cook for can provide a great opportunity to have another kind of Thanksgiving fun if you aren't afraid of new, contemporary ideas for your family.

Finally, keep remembering family members above family holidays, both before and on this special day.  There may be some rewards from slaving over a stove to master some big holiday feast for 25 people or a crowd of six kids or so, but no big turkey or fantastic sweet potato recipe is ever going to be as important as that loved one that is sleeping next to you or in the bedroom down the hall.  If you have someone special enough that you have taken the time to research and think about what you can do to make their holiday a special time, then you already know the best part of family holidays is the FAMILY.  Your family members are the most important ingredient, besides the All Mighty God Himself, that you could put into any Thanksgiving Day celebration, traditional, contemporary, small, large, or otherwise, so whatever you do, make sure your Thanksgiving dinner menu ideas focus on the ones sitting across from you at your kitchen table.

One Simple Recipe for Making Healthy Muffins From Scratch You Can Modify Lots of Ways

Yield: 8-12 muffins

This basic easy healthy muffin recipe can be varied in lots of ways. You can leave them plain, add in a cup or so of your favorite fruit and adjust the amount of sugar to suit your tastes. If you prefer larger muffins, distribute the batter among 8 of the muffin cups and pour 1/4 cup water into the empty cups to prevent them from buckling.

These muffins call for a minimal amount of fat - just 3 tablespoons for the entire batch. You can replace all the fat with a fruit puree such as applesauce, if you prefer, but that makes them too rubbery for my tastes.

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup whole grain pastry flour

1/4 cup sugar, or to taste

3 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

3 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter

1 cup milk, plus more if needed

optional additions below

Recipe Instructions

Position an oven rack in the middle of the oven and heat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a standard 12-cup (2-1/2-inch) muffin pan or line the cups with paper liners.

In a large bowl, whisk tougher the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the egg, vegetable oil, milk and any optional ingredients (such as 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries).

Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir until just combined and moistened. (The batter should still be lumpy and thick, but moist. If the batter seems too dry add a little more milk.)

Distribute the batter evenly among the muffin cups.

Bake until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean, about 20 minutes (30 minutes for larger muffins).

Remove from the oven and let the muffins rest in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them out of the pan and onto a wire rack to cool completely. Or enjoy warm.

9 Easy Healthy Muffin Variations

Apple Muffins: Stir in one medium peeled and chopped apple with the milk and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon with the flour. Substitute packed brown sugar for the granulated sugar.

Banana-Nut Muffins: Decrease milk to 1/4 cup, stir in 1 cup mashed bananas (2 to 3 medium) and 1/3 cup chopped nuts with the milk. Substitute packed brown sugar for the sugar.

Blueberry Muffins: Stir in 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries.

Chocolate Chip Muffins: Stir in 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips.

Cranberry Muffins: Stir in 1 cup chopped cranberries and 1 tablespoon finely grated orange peel with the milk. Sprinkle the tops with sugar before baking.

Oatmeal Muffins: Decrease flour to 1 cup and stir in 1 cup quick-cooking oats, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon with the flour.

Raspberry Muffins: Stir in 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries and 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest.

Spice Muffins: Stir in 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger and a pinch of ground cloves and ground nutmeg with the flour.

Zucchini Muffins: Stir in 1 cup grated zucchini (squeezed dry to remove excess moisture) and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts with the milk.

Mash one large banana, add a teaspoon pure cocoa powder and a teaspoon ground cinnamon and mix well. Bananas are a fruit rather high in calories so it will give you just as much energy as your chocolate bar. And it will provide you with important vitamins too.

Vanilla Ice-cream with Raspberry Puree

Mix 250 g fresh raspberries, 2 tablespoons honey and 1 tablespoon lemon juice in your blender until smooth. This will be enough to make a small snack for four. Pour the puree over 2 small scoops low-fat vanilla ice-cream per person. Your kids will love it and you don't have to worry about calories.

Fruit with chocolate sauce

Another recipe your kids will love: Heat up 250 ml low-fat milk until it boils. Mix 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder and 7 g cornflour with a bit of cold milk until smooth. Add to the hot milk, bring to boil and allow to simmer for a few minutes until the mixture thickens. Pour the sauce over any fruit you like. You can prepare the chocolate sauce in advance and keep it in the fridge until you need it. If you wish to sweeten it, add 1 tablespoon of honey whilst it's still hot.

By now, you should have grasped the idea that even sweet snacking can be healthy. The easiest way to create sweet healthy snacks is to use fruit which is naturally sweet and does not need any added sugar. Fruit gives excellent quick and easy to make snacks when combined with low-fat dairy products like milk or yoghurt.
